Dear Mr. President

Tomorrow you will be visiting our tiny town, coming to an empty factory a mere 1.5 miles or so from my humble home where my husband and I are working hard to be good citizens, building a business, paying taxes, and raising four sons to be God-fearing members of society. I have been in prayer for you.

You see, there are a lot of others just like us here in our town. We are not wealthy. We are not celebrities. We have no significant appointments to high offices in the land. We are simply Christ followers, living our lives with integrity, caring for our families, and teaching them the values we believe to be important. Furthermore, we love our country and the godly principles on which it was founded by men of old who also had a faith in the Almighty.

Mr. President, our trust is not in government. Our trust is not in elected officials. Our trust is not in a massive government bailout plan. Our trust is not even in ourselves, for the Holy Scriptures tell us that it is God who gives us the ability to work and produce wealth. We know that only as long as America still trusts in God will she remain a great and powerful nation.

We never wanted God taken out of school. We never wanted prayer and Bible reading to be banned from the public arena. We never wanted our children’s future mortgaged to the hilt or millions of babies killed. We never wanted the Ten Commandments to be removed from our courthouses.

We simply want to be left alone to live our lives in freedom, to raise our children as we think best, and for government to now and always be by the people and for the people, not better than or trampling over the people, whether they are rich or poor, young or old, infirm or full of vitality.

We want godly leaders who know how to balance a budget, who know that you can’t tax a business (or a nation) into prosperity, who know that there is One God and they are not Him. We want leaders who acknowledge and defend the value of human life. As Ronald Reagan once said, “Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born.” We want our leaders to recognize that the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness includes these, our tiniest citizens.

Mr. President, what an opportunity you have. What good you could do and how you could help to bring about real and lasting change in our world if you were to experience a Damascus moment like the one the Apostle Paul experienced! How I pray that this may happen for you. I pray, further, that as you enter our town, you will encounter the Holy Spirit, perhaps through those who are in attendance, perchance through a mere impression in your spirit that there’s something different here. I pray it makes you thirsty.

Meanwhile, I and many others will continue to pray for this great nation of ours, that the kingdom of righteousness would be advanced, that evil will be defeated, and that a revival of the Holy Spirit would sweep our land.

I’m no celebrity, President Obama. I’m just a simple housewife who loves her God, her family, her church, and her country.

With tears in my eyes, I say,
