Why the flag is important to me (it’s about the love)
I will never apologize for my love of the American flag. The reason you see it in photos is because it’s important to me.
The reason it’s important to me? It’s because I know that I am called to help my country and its people first. And by “its people,” I mean all of them. The reason I can love all people is because God does first, and God, I know, lives in me.
Loving my fellow Americans doesn’t mean I agree with them all. Loving my people doesn’t even mean I like them all. (If you think Jesus ‘liked’ everyone equally, take a look at His interactions with the religious. And yet–and yet!–He died for all.)
God has placed a burden on me and in me for this country. I can only be faithful to what He’s calling me to do.
Loving America doesn’t mean I cannot love other countries and their people, for I already do. It’s not an either/or, it’s a both/and.
I care very much about what happens in politics because it directly affects my people and their lives. The decisions that are made by our leaders, they matter. They have consequences. Those consequences trickle down. That’s why I care about it.
As far as I am concerned, we can be friends, you and I, no matter who you are or where you’re from. My hand of friendship is extended to all.
God bless America. God bless her people, and through her, may God bless the world.
Sincerely,
The Small, Caffeinated American Mom
